When Worth Becomes a Checklist: The Weaponization of the Proverbs 31 Woman
For years, I wore the Proverbs 31 woman like a weight.
She hovered at the edge of every Mother’s Day sermon, every marriage retreat, every women’s Bible study filled with lace bookmarks and floral devotionals. Her shadow lived in the margins of my journaling Bible - a list of what I should be but never quite became.
I tried to match her.
I learned to cook, to craft, to stretch myself across expectations that weren’t built for human beings. I learned to swallow my anger, to pray for a gentleness that felt more like silence, to keep a quiet heart, to be submissive, to smile through exhaustion because “strength and dignity are her clothing”.
