An Honest Prayer: Blind Spots
God of truth,
we confess that too often,
Your people claim to walk in light
while keeping shadows hidden in plain sight.
We sing of love
yet remain blind to the ways
racism and bigotry take root among us -
in our pulpits, our pews, our schools,
our family tables.
We defend ourselves with piety
while ignoring the wounds we inflict.
We rush to charity
but resist justice.
We want to be called “good Christians”
without facing the ways we have been complicit.
Uncover us, Lord.
Strip away the comfort of ignorance.
Let us see what You see -
the image of Christ denied in our neighbor,
the sin of supremacy masquerading as faith,
the violence we bless with silence.
Give us courage to repent,
to listen without defensiveness,
to dismantle what we have excused.
Let our witness be more than words -
let it be repair.
And may Your Spirit trouble us
until every barrier is broken down,
and every child of God is seen as Beloved.
Amen.
